Anoka Technical College Welding students took top honors in the regional Behind the Mask welding contest held at Minneapolis Community and Technical College February 15, 2015.

Congratulations to:

  • 1st Place Oxyacetylene Welding or Oxy-Fuel Cutting (OFC): Noah Olson, $100
  • 2nd Place Oxyacetylene Welding or Oxy-Fuel Cutting (OFC): Nathaniel Koskinen, $75
  • 1st Place Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW): David Vlasyuk, $100 and a helmet

Behind the Mask is a welding competition sponsored by the American Welding Society Northwest Section 019.

Student and professional welders compete for awards and cash prizes.

The GMAW award is Vlasyuk’s second recent recognition. In November 2014, he was one of five Anoka Technical College students selected to attend FABTECH’s annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia, where, competing against 24 other welders at the 3M Speedglas booth, he was one of three winners.

Anoka Tech’s Advanced Welding certificate program boosts a 100% placement rate.
