Concurrent Enrollment

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Anoka Technical College's Concurrent Enrollment program!

The Concurrent Enrollment program provides high school students the opportunity to take college classes at their high school with the class being taught by a college-approved high school instructor.

Concurrent Enrollment classes through Anoka Tech provide students the opportunity to get a jump start on a college education and start gaining knowledge in high-skill, high-demand jobs. Anoka Tech offers career and technical education courses ranging from Welding to Nursing Assistant.

CTE Concurrent Enrollment is an option for:

  • students in grades 10, 11 or 12.
  • students who learn best in “hands-on” activities.
  • students who want to explore advanced career and technical education.
  • students who are ready to prepare for highly skilled technical workplaces.
  • students who want to earn college credit and save money at the same time.

Eligibility

Juniors – Class rank in the upper one-third of their class or a score at or above the 70th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test. 

Seniors – Class rank in the upper one-half of their class or a score at or above the 50th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test.

Juniors and Seniors – Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above OR indicate college readiness by achieving college level Accuplacer scores in the area of reading and sentence skills.

PSEO concurrent enrollment exceptions: A high school that wishes to have a college or university offer a PSEO concurrent enrollment course to its students, but cannot generate sufficient enrollment to offer that course only to 11th and 12th grade students who meet the eligibility requirements may:

  • Request approval for an exception from the college president or university to allow 9th and 10th grade students who rank in the upper one-tenth of their class or attain a score at or above the 90th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, or have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Registration

Students attend an orientation on a chosen date prior to the beginning of the trimester. Once a student has attended an orientation session, college staff visit the high school to help the student register for class(es).

Note: Anoka Tech students are expected to adhere to the policies and guidelines set forth in the Student Handbook.

Application
To become a Concurrent Enrollment instructor, first apply.

Please review the instructor application process, fill out the application, and submit all other required materials to the Director of Partnerships.

Handbook
Concurrent Enrollment instructors are an integral part of the Anoka Tech community and therefore have roles and responsibilities assigned.

Every instructor must review and abide by the Instructor and Staff Handbook.

Counselors

Waiver Request

In accordance with MN State Procedure 3.5.1 Part 4 Subpart H, a high school must request approval for an exception. Language from the procedure is listed below: 

  1. 1. request approval for an exception from the president of the college or university to allow 9th or 10th grade students who rank in the upper one-tenth of their class or attain a score at or above the 90th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, or have a favorable recommendation from a designated high school official to enroll in that course; or
  2. 2. request approval for an exception from the president of the college or university to allow non-PSEO students to enroll in that course. The president of the college or university shall approve or deny the request after the appropriate college or university consultation process. In any concurrent enrollment course that enrolls both PSEO and non-PSEO students:
    1. a. PSEO students shall be the majority of the students in the course; and
    2. b. The concurrent enrollment instructor and college or university faculty member shall ensure that all PSEO students are held to college-level course standards.
