All Clear After Lockdown at Anoka Technical College

Shortly after 11 am, Thursday, April 5 at Anoka Technical College, reports were made to the college’s Public Safety Department that there was a suspicious person on campus in a bathroom. College Administration and Public Safety called 911 and issued a lockdown at 11:30 am. The lockdown went into effect for Anoka Technical College, STEP High School and Anoka-Hennepin Technical High School. Shortly after, local law enforcement also received a report that someone in a specific classroom (room 304) may have had a gun. Several law enforcement agencies responded. Law enforcement worked quickly to investigate and determined that there was no threatening person or evidence of a weapon on campus. The on-scene commander called an ALL CLEAR at 12:30 pm.

All classes and activities were cancelled for the remainder of the day, Thursday, April 5. Counselors are onsite for anyone needing assistance. Regularly scheduled classes and activities will resume Friday, April 6.

“The safety of our students, staff and faculty is our top priority,” says President Kent Hanson. “I am proud of the swift action and cooperation of our college community, law enforcement and our partner schools. I am extremely grateful that everyone is safe and unharmed.”
