Anoka Tech Hosts SkillsUSA Welding Competition

SkillsUSA Team Welding

Last weekend Anoka Technical College hosted the local SkillsUSA Welding Competition. Students from local high schools and the Anoka Tech Welding programs compete in individual and team events for an opportunity to represent the state of Minnesota at the national SkillsUSA Championship in June.

In the individual competition, students use multiple welding techniques to build a part according to print plans. Scores are combined with a knowledge-based written test to determine gold, silver and bronze winners.

For the team competition, groups of three students design and build a project in six hours using three different welding process and cutting techniques. This year the Anoka Tech team designed and built a small utility trailer.
