together to fund the purchase of a new Tsugami S205 II multi-axis Swiss
machine for the Anoka Tech Machine Trades program.
Anoka Technical College Foundation and approximately 50 guests celebrated the addition of a Tsugami S205 II multi-axis Swiss machine to the Machine Trades program Oct. 1.
The event also provided an opportunity to again thank all of the contributors that made this new piece of equipment possible. Beginning with Connexus Energy who kicked off the campaign for the machinery last fall with a $100,000 donation, followed by Verne and Susan McPherson, Minnesota Precision Manufacturers Association, Cretex Companies, CNH Machine and Wilson Tool International. The final $25,000 came from an Anoka County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (ACHRA) forgivable loan, and Morris Midwest provided extra software at no cost.
Swiss CNC multi-axis machines are valued within the machining industry. They are ideally suited to the flexible machining necessary for longer components and for their ability to efficiently provide precise machining of complex features on small components.
“A Swiss machine involves our two major disciplines of milling and turning,” said Matt Rogers, Machine Trades faculty at Anoka Tech. “When combined, these two functions demand a higher level of comprehension and a heightened skill set. From a programmatic standpoint, this piece of equipment will enable us to expand our curriculum in the related course discipline of process control while incorporating finishing techniques used on a daily basis at our neighboring manufacturing partners.”
Anoka Technical College offers several programs in Machines Trades including: an associate in applied science degree and a certificate in CNC Manufacturing Technology; a diploma in CNC Machinist; a diploma in Machinist; and an advanced certificate in Multi-Axis Machining.
