Youth & Summer Programs

New this year, Anoka Technical College is offering a variety of summer programming for students in grades 7-12 and college students and adult learners.

Programs are offered during June and July and conclude in August.

Interactive Family Workshop Series

Due to the precautions Minnesota State and Anoka Technical College is taking in response to COVID-19, this series has been canceled until further notice. 

Join us on Saturdays this Spring for hands-on workshops where you will have fun learning valuable skills and gain knowledge about college and career paths that are in high demand, high paying fields.

NitroX Camp

During this week-long camp at Anoka Technical College, students who will be in grades 7 - 8 in fall 2020 will work on remote controlled cars, gain exposure to transportation careers while touring local businesses and become aware of employment skills. Campers will discover new technical skills and have fun making new friends while working in teams. Camp culminates with a race day.

Dates: June 22 - 26, 2020

Time: 8 am to 3 pm (lunch provided)

Cost: $165/participant (includes lunch, shirts and transportation to field trips).

Scrubs Camp

Due to the precautions Minnesota State and Anoka Technical College is taking in response to COVID-19, Scrubs Camp has been canceled this summer.

Summer Scholars Academy

The Summer Scholars Academy is designed to help you be successful in college-level courses in the fall and to ease your transition to college. Whether you are an entering college freshman who recently graduated from high school or a student returning to school after time away, this program is designed to be a free* alternative to developmental education courses, saving you time and money. Summer Scholars Academy will help ease the transition to college life by providing you opportunity to build your confidence as a scholar while networking with fellow students and Anoka Technical College staff and faculty.

Why should you participate?

Develop Learning Strategies and Study Skills: Program activities are focused on building skills in reading, writing, and math. This work will not only help become a stronger student, but can help you focus on the road ahead, which may save you time and money. 
Meet Fellow Students: The Summer Scholars Academy is ideal for getting to know peers who can support you during the program and beyond. The program is only open to a limited number of students, providing ample opportunity for you to get to know those participating as you work, learn, think, and have fun together.  
Plan for Your Future: In addition to preparing you for the near future as you get ready to start college in the fall, the Summer Scholars Academy is a chance to think and dream even bigger. Anoka Technical College staff can assist you in considering your academic and career goals and help map out the best path to achieving them. 
Explore What Anoka Technical College Has to Offer: Anoka Technical College is bursting with resources that are at your disposal and can help you succeed in college and beyond. Through Summer Scholars Academy, you have an opportunity to learn about resources and services for students such as tutoring, the Writing Center, workshops, campus events, and more.   
Get a Return On Your Investment: Students like you who meet all the program requirements will earn a $150 stipend upon successful completion of the Summer Scholars Academy.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Incoming new students who have been accepted to Anoka Technical College
  • Students who are returning to school after at least one year of not attending a MinnState college/university
  • Accuplacer score(s) in the following range:
    • Reading: Next Gen score 215-249 (Classic 40-77)
      • Reading score is also used to determine Writing/English placement.
    • Math (Arithmetic): Next Gen score 200-264 (Classic 30-70)
      •  Students applying to programs with specific admissions criteria must also meet those requirements

  • Program Workshop/Activities Include*:
    • Orientation to Campus Technology
    • Improving Your Study Skills
    • Financial Aid & Financial Literacy
    • Resources and Support at Anoka Technical College
    • Group outings/SSA team building events. May include a Twins or United game, bowling, etc.
