Modern Training and Education for a Skilled Workforce

Innovative career and technical education to help students and communities live and learn well is what Anoka Technical College has been all about since opening its doors in 1967. With this mission, the role Anoka Tech plays in the lives of students extends beyond the building itself.

To keep up with demands of the industries seeking Anoka Tech grads and ensure the college continues to provide the finest career and technical education in Minnesota, Anoka Tech constantly works to modernize equipment, classrooms and curriculum.

Recently, four academic program areas experienced significant upgrades.

Surgical Services

Surgical Services lab modernization

Celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in April, the Surgical Services area received a thorough upgrade. Classrooms with lab spaces and a separate scrub-sink area provides students training in an environment that reflects where they will work.

“The new labs and equipment replicate an actual operating room which is helpful with the learning process and provide us with an amazing hands on experience,” shared Christopher Kramchuck, a student in the Surgical Technology program.

Beyond the classroom, the upgrade to the area includes a lounge and study space for students. “I think I can speak for everyone in my class when I say we love our area so much,” said student Liliya Yevsin. “It definitely has helped us study, and share our thoughts and concerns about school.”

Machine Trades

Machine Trades modernization

Anoka Tech unveiled an industry-leading piece of machinery within the Machine Trades Department in late August 2018: a new 5-axis mill from Matsuura Industries. The mill provides students with more accurate, current technical skills, meeting industry demands and adding value to graduates entering the workforce.

Automotive

Automotive modernization

The Automotive program has worked hard to source equipment to help produce graduates trained to get a job anywhere in the industry. Standout equipment acquisitions unique to Anoka Tech include a virtual vehicle diagnostic lab, and an exhaust pipe bender.

The virtual vehicle diagnostic lab allows students familiarize themselves with the operation of various computerized and non-computerized control systems and encounter problems they would not necessarily find working on regular vehicles in the classroom.

Licensed Practical Nursing

LPN simulation lab

Anoka Tech’s Licensed Practical Nursing program took the interactive learning experience students receive in the clinical setting and brought it to the classroom. A revolutionary simulation lab now features high-fidelity manikins that are able to simulate real-life situations and respond to changing conditions.

Students to practice communication, teamwork, and technical skills to build their confidence and prepare themselves as future healthcare workers. These soft skills are critical in today’s fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment where the focus on patient feedback and error reduction is key.
