Through the Toro Giving program, Anoka Technical College recently received a Greenmaster™ Flex 2100, a greens mower that is bringing new vitality to the college’s already popular Horticulture program.
“The generosity of Toro will help us continue to educate future generations of turf and landscape industry professionals,” said Horticulture instructor, Amy Moberg. “Our students will benefit in many ways, including learning how to renovate a golf green!”
Toro walk greens mowers, such as the Greenmaster™ Flex 2100, have long set the standard for performance that creates perfection in greens playability and aftercut appearance. The total value of the Toro lawn maintenance equipment donation is $11,900.
“Toro has been a strong industry leader for the 30 plus years I've been involved with turf,” said Horticulture instructor, Marlin Murphy. “This donation shows Toro's dedication to, not only making quality turf products, but also to giving back to the turf industry. We are so grateful for the industry support necessary to nurture and train the future superintendents here at Anoka Tech.”
Prior to receiving the new state-of-the-art Toro mower, the students in the Anoka Tech Horticulture program struggled to maintain the golf course green adjacent to the college with aging equipment. With new equipment, students have more opportunities to work on a maintained green, experiment with different varieties of turf and maintenance practices, and become more confident in their abilities.
“The generosity of donations, such as this donation by Toro, enables Anoka Tech to continue to provide accessible and affordable technical education and opportunities to our students,” said Kent Hanson, the college’s president.
Graduates of the Horticulture program at Anoka Tech have enjoyed a 100% job placement rate for over a decade, and many program graduates advanced to become golf course superintendents.
